Youth Ministries
DBC loves teens! We see youth ministry as a nurturing and teaching opportunity with our young people, in preparation for the responsibilities they will have in adulthood. We believe these years are critical for training in Christian service, discipleship, and basic spiritual maturity.
At DBC, our teens are charged to "Make a Radical Difference for Christ!" This vision objective is based on Romans 1:16: "For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek." Salvation, at its core, is a radical change that takes place in our lives the moment we trust Christ as our Savior. This radical change should be put on display to the world around us, shared, given away, not hidden, cloistered, or something of which to be embarrassed.
Avenues of teaching young men and women the Word of God include:
Sunday School
The guys meet @ 9:30 a.m. in the Teen Room to study verse-by-verse through books of the Bible.
The girls connect @ 9:30 a.m. in their own classroom (lead by women) for lively fellowship and vibrant teaching of scripture to be applied to their specific stage in life.
Youth-Led Services
Occasionally, our young men and women are given the opportunity to serve in leading an entire evening service. This gives our youth the opportunity to practice what they have been taught, as well as encouraging the DBC church body. Special music, youth-led devotions, testimonies, Scripture readings are but a few of the things you may experience in one of these special services.
Ignite Student Fellowship (13-19)
Each Wednesday night we gather in the youth room. The hour typically includes praise and worship music (featuring some of our faithful teens that attend), announcements and prayer requests, followed by time dedicated to Bible study.
Our application is consistent: "This is what the Bible tells us, go and do thou likewise." We are "Scripture driven" in order to impact these young lives with the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
Youth Outings
Recognizing that fellowship is an important aspect of the Christian life, about once a month we enjoy an event aimed at creating community. Events vary from laser tag, to progressive dinners, to Youth Conferences that engage the teens with the Word of God and encourage them to make godly decisions that will impact the world with eternity in view. Even in our fun events, we always remind and encourage each other to put Christ on display in our actions.
Summer Ministry
Each summer our youth have the opportunity to participate in camp or conference ministries with sister churches. Spending a week "unplugged" from the world to simply focus their attention on spiritual things is one of the must-do events for our youth ministry during each year.
